LYS was engaged by DELUGE FIRE PROTECTION (S.E.A.) PTE LTD. in 2012 to fabricate, deliver and install a 16.1m high automated fire-fighting tower at Jurong Island SLNG plant.

The conceptualisation methods of installation outweigh the considerations for on-site fabrication process due to access issues posed by the completed jetty complex.

The whole tower was fabricated off-site and was shipped vertically via a floating barge with a crane attached.

The challenges we faced was extremely high as tide times and sea current was the major factor in the launching of the tower from the barge to the jetty structure via sea route.

Matters were made worse with the realisation that the berth was designed for SLNG vessels which prevented the barge from mooring alongside.

With only a window of 1 hour to launch the tower to the jetty during the highest tide, tug boats were engaged to control the drift of the barge.

The operations started and with careful co-ordination and precise skills of both the operator and tug boat captain, the whole operation was completed in 40 minutes.
